Gold Coast Weddings – Melanie & Paul
Flashback to a beautiful summer’s day on the 20th of December 2013, when the lovely Melanie & Paul were wed at our Gold Coast Weddings venue, An Island Hideaway…
Melanie and Paul caught each other’s eye from across a crowded room on a night out in the city. Melanie says, “I knew I couldn’t leave the bar until I spoke to him”, “I was drawn to him, so I went and stood near him and we started chatting. After chatting for a few minutes my friend came over to tell me that we had to leave so I gave this man I hardly knew my phone number and left. That very night I received a call from him asking to catch up and take me on a date, I knew from that night on that there was something very special about this man and I needed him in my life”.
The Proposal
The Proposal happened when we were on a holiday in Bali, it was a beautiful balmy night and Paul suggested that we take a walk along the beach. I had no idea what was coming, he got down on one knee and asked me, I was shocked but managed to get the ‘YES!’ out eventually.
Location: Why did you choose An Island Hideaway?
It was time to plan a wedding and we had recently moved to Queensland so we were searching for Gold Coast Weddings and we stumbled across and An Island Hideaway’s website. We went on a bridal cruise to view the venue and fell in LOVE! We booked our wedding in that night and then everything else fell into place…
Colours and Theme
Our theme was a relaxed beach style wedding; we had simple decorations, mainly white with a touch of pastel blue and yellow. We chose to have a wedding quote which was ‘All the roads lead to you’. This was written on our invites and on chalk boards around the venue on the day.
Who Wore What?
Melanie wore a beautiful Ivory lace gown by Allure Bridal which was covered in Swarovski crystal beading; it had a v-neckline and also had a scooping low back. She wore strappy heels with Swarovski crystals across the toes. Melanie’s veil was a very long and made of soft ivory tulle by two of her sisters; Adele and Lisa. Melanie kept the jewellery simple with a nice pair of chandelier beaded earrings, wearing her hair in loose curls pinned up with a beaded headpiece.
Melanie has 4 amazing sisters; Adele, Lisa, Linda and Kristy who were all bridesmaids. They wore a light blue maxi dress by Mambosa with crystal embellished sandals by Zu.
Paul had his brother Al, cousin Jase and two mates Josh and Liam as his groomsmen. The groomsmen wore grey suit pants with a matching vest and a white shirt. Paul wore the same with a matching suit jacket.
The Ceremony
Sharing their wedding day with 60 of their closest family members and friends, Melanie and Paul decided to hand write personal vows to be kept as a surprise for each other on the day. Paul & Melanie professed their love under an arbour, framed by trees and the water’s edge; the couple were married on An Island Hideaway’s northern beach landing.
The Reception
We had a cocktail style reception to try and keep it more casual. We had dry bars scattered around the reception room decorated with sand filled fish bowls with tea light candles to stick with our beach theme.
The menu was a cocktail style food catered by An Island Hideaway’s resident chef, which our guests loved!
The wedding cake was a chocolate mud cake made by Whipped Cake Co which was covered in white fondant icing, wrapped with lace and topped with flowers to match the bouquets.
Our bridal waltz / first dance was to Everlong by the Foo Fighters, it’s a song that we listened to a lot when we first and we both love it. We had Nuthin Betta for our entertainment for the night and they were fantastic. They double as musicians and DJs.
We loved every second of the day.
